Registration: Registration begins at 6:00 PM on each first Friday--and not one second sooner--as this is how tournaments function on Chess.com. Just go to this tournament link between 6:00 and 6:59:59 PM on each first Friday of the month.

Eligibility: There are 2 requirements to be eligible for our tournament:

• This tournament is open for people who have either physically visited The Westport Chess Club in KC at least one time or for people who live in the greater KC metro. This prevents internet randos from joining and gives it a club-like feel.
• This is for members of our club on Chess.com. Becoming a member of our virtual club free and easy. Just go to this link and click the 'Join' button. Please let us know who you are in the request and an admin will approve you. Thank you.

Format: Swiss

Time Control: Varies, but the total tournament time will be 3 hours or less.

Ratings: This will affect only your Chess.com rating. (This won't affect your USCF rating.)

Cost: FREE

Prizes: As there is no entry fee, there are no monetary awards to be given. However, the top 3 finishers will receive a virtual medal from Chess.com.

Rules of note: This is the same as a live, OTB tournament, so no outside sources may be used. Chess.com has a solid algorithm for fair play detection, and now every game is checked immediately upon completion.
